On stage at the Majestic
The original children's ballet, choreographed by Christy and dance instructor Gina Baker, was based on Mary O’Neill’s book of poems Hailstones & Halibut Bones, a favorite childhood book of Christy's.
The dance school's junior high and high school students narrated the performance before a standing-room crowd at the Majestic Theater.
The highlight of the ballet proved to be Hugged by You, a tender dance choreographed by and starring Christy and her youngest grandchild, Ainsley Schubert in her recital debut.
Christy dedicated this year's ballet performance to each of her grandchildren: Greyson & Riley Jones and Ainsley Schubert, her co-star.
"In addition to celebrating the studio's 16th anniversary this year, we are also celebrating 15 years with Gina Baker, our tap, jazz, and hip-hop dance instructor," said Christy.
"We dedicated the second act of the evening, Black & White & Outta Sight featuring performances of these dance forms, to her in recognition of her talent and commitment."
Lake Highlands dancers will have an opportunity to work with Baker this summer.
"Ms. Gina will be leading a summer dance camp this year, themed similarly to High School Musical."
"She is a wonderful teacher, the students love her, and it will surely be a popular class. Parents can call us at the studio for times and registration information," said Christy.
So the fun doesn't have to end with this end-of-year recital.
The 16th anniversary of the annual recital capped off another artistic year for Christy and her troupe, but lots of summer options for our Lake Highlands dancers can still be found at http://www.janiechristydance.com.
