Dr. Bob Iden joins the faculty at Bishop Lynch
You can hardly have a conversation about the Wildcats without Bob Iden’s name coming up at some point.
As of July 1st, Iden will be making a move back to his roots by joining the faculty of Bishop Lynch High School.
Over the course of four decades, Iden has held many official titles serving Lake Highlands High School.
Aside from being a graduate of the LHHS Class of 1970, he served as a teacher, football and track coach from 1978-1985.
Of course, his most well-known association was as the head man in charge, LHHS Principal during the years of 1997 to 2008.
“The fact that I wanted to do three tours of duty at LHHS is a testament to the reputation it enjoys as such a great high school,” says Iden.
After retiring from LHHS in 2008, Iden made the decision to pursue a career in the real estate industry. He joined the Ebby Halliday team and has worked as a Realtor for the past year. However, last week Iden announced he is leaving Ebby.
“My experience at Ebby Halliday has been tremendous, and I couldn’t be happier with the organization and its people,” says Iden. “I have tremendous respect for all of them.”
Sherryl Wesson, Manager at the Ebby Halliday office, says of Iden’s departure, “We are obviously disappointed not to have Bob with us anymore because he has been a valuable member of our team.”
“We are delighted to report, however, that he will still be with the Ebby family as a member of our Referral Associate Program,” she continues. “He’s a terrific guy, and we all support him in his desire to follow his passion.”
LH Today asked Dr. Iden how his move to Bishop Lynch came about. As it turns out, a couple former Wildcat coaches made the decision easy for him.
During his tenure as a football and track coach at LHHS, Bob developed long lasting friendships with former LHHS coaches, Bill Persinger and Leonard Carey. Iden and Carey also played football together at Kilgore College.
When a position opened up on the Bishop Lynch staff, his old friends were quick to give Iden a call. As of July 1st, he will join the Bishop Lynch faculty and work both as an Honors World History Teacher and Assistant Coach in football and track. “It’s time to return to my roots, my passion.” Iden says.
Dr. Iden comments that Lake Highlands High School and Bishop Lynch aren’t all that different. “Both schools have very high expectations and standards,” he says.
"I have deep gratitude for the support the Lake Highlands community showed me during my tenure as their principal,” shares Iden.
"I now look forward to the opportunity to work with some old friends and colleagues by joining the faculty of such a prestigious school as Bishop Lynch."
As he enters the next chapter in his career, Iden will once again hold the official titles of Teacher and Coach, but what many people in the Lake Highlands community are quick to call Bob is just as important - a dear friend and mentor.
Bishop Lynch is getting the best Lake Highlands has to offer. Good luck, Bob!
