New proprietors to replace long-gone business
Following their departure from the location at the southwest corner of this intersection, the building has remained empty.
But that won't be the case much longer!
LH Today has recently learned that Dallas Bike Works is moving in soon.
Following some fact-finding and a quick visit with the property owner, we were able to catch up with Boyd Wallace, owner of this local bike shop.
Many cyclists are already familiar with Dallas Bike Works, which he currently owns and operates with his wife, Katy.
They're located at Skillman and Abrams, just around the corner from Tom Thumb, near the Park Lane entrance.
"The bike shop has been here since 1987," says Boyd. "My wife and I have owned it for the last 3 ½ years."
"We've got a great customer base and this location serves the trail really well, so we're hopeful that our new location on Lawther will be a great success, as well."
The Wallaces have been working for over a year with the property owner, getting the details and plans squared away.
"With the proximity to the lake, it's a fantastic location," continues Boyd. "We've always wanted to come over this way."
The Wallaces are anticipating three to four months worth of renovation to the building, including landscape improvements and exterior painting.
Together with their general contractor, they'll be gutting the entire interior of the former club.
"We hope that our new location will serve as a park and ride for the cyclists at the lake," says Boyd. "Plans are underway for us to be able to serve coffee and maybe a few breakfast burritos, too."
"We're working with the Green Spot, over on Buckner, and White Rock Coffee to help us with those ideas."
