Nine years ago, Rhonda Clifford was looking for a way to earn a little extra money.

She also needed a flexible schedule - one that would afford her the opportunity to juggle the demands of a busy family.

Following a 17-year stint at Castle Gap Jewelry, a small shop located in Preston Center, Clifford certainly had the background knowledge necessary to make the leap toward starting her own jewelry business.

“More than anything else, it was my family that started me thinking about going out on my own," says Clifford.

With the final push coming from a close friend, Rhonda decided to take the leap.

“We’d always go these home shows," she says. "And my friend would point out that I could probably make all the stuff these ladies were selling.”

With that, Clifford Creations was born.

Now, nine years later, Clifford is going strong, with a full portfolio of handmade necklaces, earrings and custom belt buckles.

“I don’t always know what a piece is going to look like when I start it," she explains.

"I enjoy the creative process and get a lot of pleasure out of making pieces that my customers can wear with just about anything."

“I definitely cater to the Lake Highlands mommy crowd," she laughs. "You know, the jeans and t-shirt moms who are on a budget, but still want to look good wearing their every day jewelry.”

Clifford Creations is hosting its 5th Annual Santa's Secret Shop this week, along with 14 other local artisans on Thursday, December 3rd and Friday December 4th in Clifford's Lake Highlands home.

Stop by on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. and enjoy wine and cheese. Friday the event begins at 9:00 a.m. with coffee and light snacks.
