Prost! to Lake Highlands
Held last Saturday at the LH Town Center, it may in fact prove to be the most successful first time fundraising event ever – in a neighborhood known for its fundraising events.
Adam Meierhofer, along with Tate Gorman, headed up the Exchange Club's Oktoberfest 2011 committee.
"Our count showed that easily over 5,000 people attended," said Meierhofer. "We think that’s the largest turnout to any single event in Lake Highlands history."
Gorman was incredibly pleased with the strong turnout.
"We had a great committee, had all the right people, and everybody worked hard. I also attribute our success to the terrific weather and the user friendly venue of the Town Center amphitheater area."
"We were blown away by how many people came out."
Gorman said there were no problems securing the site for the event, with both Prescott Realty and the City of Dallas on board.
Planning for the event only began in July, just three short months prior to the transformation of the Town Center into a lively Bavarian berg.
Committee members included Doug Hale, Patrick Brown, Justin Bono, Ronda Moreland, Jon Deats, Travis Shahan, Morgan Davenport, Melissa Powell, and Tiffany Walker, along with Meierhofer and Gorman.
Long-time resident and realtor, Robin Moss Norcross, whose firm Ebby Halliday sponsored the Kids Zone, spoke highly of the day's events.
"Saturday was simply one of the best days I have had in my 50+ years in Lake Highlands."
"Long time neighbors mingled with new neighbors and a very good time was had by all. For me, and I think many more, it felt like a seminal moment for our community."
Good food and cold beer were plentiful.
Fare was provided by Eat the World, Kuby’s, Enchilada’s, Fat Daddy’s, The Grape, and Urban Crust.
"The food was great," said Gorman.
"Our vendors were excited to participate in this event and everybody worked together to ensure success."
"Toby at Eat the World even fixed us breakfast tacos while we were setting up Saturday morning."
"Everybody was very happy with the turnout and the revenue, and we're looking forward to next year."
While the final numbers will be announced first to members at the October 7th Exchange Club meeting, organizers guesstimate that gross numbers are likely to be in the tens of thousands!
As to plans for Oktoberfest 2012, Gorman is convinced of one thing.
"We’ll definitely start planning earlier!"
