Chip Waggoner shares the news process
LHE Counselor Darla Davidson organized this year's annual event which catered to the 4th, 5th and 6th graders, giving them a taste of the many opportunities that await them once they leave LHE.
"Our speakers were from many different fields but they had one thing in common,” Davidson said. “The guests were all so happy to come to LHE to share their experiences with the kids."
Other professionals giving presentations to the kids included a forensic scientist, photographer, Care Flight nurse, private investigator, aerospace/defense engineer and a pair of Lake Highlands restaurateurs.
Kathy Stewart and Anita Siegers were on hand to share some of their experiences at Highlands Café.
"It's our pleasure to do this,” Stewart said. “We want to show the kids that there are so many opportunities out there and there is nothing they can't achieve."
Many of the presentations included props, like police officers Moreno and Cline from the Northeast Division giving the kids a tour of their tricked out car.
Photographer and LHE parent Yvette Richardson brought her tools of the trade - tri-pods, light umbrellas and cameras.
Television reporter Chip Waggoner punched in a video of a story he covered and walked the kids through the process of reporting the news.
According to the kids, one of the highlights of the day included samples from Chocolatier Dorian Isenberg and the Highlands Cafe team – of course!
