Local home tour gives back to the community
Three homeowners opened their doors to LH
When a few friends met over coffee in 2004 to discuss the idea of combining a yearly home tour with a silent auction and brunch, who knew it would eventually become one of the most popular events in Lake Highlands? Well, 5 years later, that's exactly what's happened.

On Wednesday, April 8th the Early Childhood PTA of Lake Highlands hosted its 5th Annual Brunch, Auction & Home Tour: A Palette of Homes. Featured on the tour this year were the homes of Brandy & Adam Meierhofer, Sharon & Jason Romano, and Tonya & John Dalton.

Members of the PTA, along with family, friends and community members began the tour in the morning and following their visits to the Sanshire, Chiswell and Covemeadow residences, headed over to Park Lane Ranch for a seated lunch and silent auction.

In addition to peeking into friends' homes and gleaning new decorating ideas, Lisa Wentzel, president of the LHAECPTA, reminded everyone of the true importance of the tour.

"This is always such a fun event, and so special to our organization because it allows us to give back to Lake Highlands. With the money we raise today, we are able to support projects in our area that make the community better for our children," she said.

Event committee members Heather Roberts, Kirk Thompson, Elaine Glasscock, Nicole Helfand and Carolyn Potter estimate that the event brought in close to $7,000. With 140 tickets sold, proceeds will stay right here in Lake Highlands benefiting our local families and neighborhoods.

In the past, funds raised from the auction and home tour have benefited the Lake Highlands YMCA, the Lake Highlands North Recreation Center and new spray ground facilities, as well as Highlands Christian Church and library programs at our local elementary schools.

As the event ended, Wentzel offered her thanks to the PTA host committee and a challenge to all the members of our Lake Highlands community.

"If you are not already involved with this fantastic organization, I encourage you to do so. It certainly has made a difference in my life - and in the lives of my family and friends,” she closed.
