Located at 7335 Abrams Road, MCHS was founded in 1970 to focus solely on children three to six years of age. MCHS operates under the philosophy that, during this developmental period, children possess the unique ability to continuously absorb the knowledge made available for their discovery. To create stability, students typically return to the same classroom each year, with the same group of friends and class guide.
The school’s expansion, addition of a new classroom and full renovation took advantage of many new green technologies available today. Features include energy-saving insulated windows, an efficient HVAC system, advanced solid foam insulation materials, low toxicity paints and a tubular lighting system that will permit the almost exclusive use of natural lights in the classrooms.
MCHS Director Christa Montague is pleased with the renovation and says the school is energized by the new, efficient and well-designed space.
“Montessori Children’s House and School is dedicated to fostering the development of each child’s self-reliance, confidence, and respect. The nurturing of these characteristics helps the child become an independent, enthusiastic, problem-solving, lifelong learner. We designed our new building with exactly these goals in mind – and it has turned out beautifully,” Montague said.
Attendees at the ceremony included current students, their families and alumni who attended MCHS during the past 39 years. Also in attendance was Carl Schwalm, one of the founders of MCHS and Eva Henderson, one of the original participants at the school.
Montessori Children’s House and School operates during the regular school year and offers summer sessions. The school is accredited by the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), the organization created by Dr. Maria Montessori to protect the authenticity of Montessori Schools. MCHS is the only Dallas-area AMI Montessori school that focuses solely on children three to six years old.
