Mid-century modern designs highlight home tour

A Lake Highlands home will be one of several featured on the 4th annual White Rock Home Tour this weekend.

Touted as the area’s only mostly-modern home tour, two of the five homes open to the public are original designs from locally renowned Ju-Nel Homes. Dallas architects Lyle Rowley and Jack Wilson formed Ju-Nel Homes in 1958 and built dozens of east Dallas contemporary homes in the early 1960’s.

Ju-Nel developed a small but devout local fan base as the modern movement became more popular in recent years.

Two of those fans are Lake Highlands residents Nathan and Jaclyn Haley. The Haleys bought their house on Royalpine in White Rock Valley last year after a lengthy search. The couple will open their doors for the tour this weekend.

“We’ve been blessed to have the chance to own not just a great example of mid-century modern architecture, but also to own a custom Ju-Nel home - a true piece of Dallas architectural history," Jaclyn Haley said.

Donna Wilson Page, daughter of Jack Wilson, will participate in a meet and greet at both Ju-Nel homes on Saturday and Sunday.

Four of the homes on this year’s tour are mid-century modern designs. The fifth, built by architect Alan Hoffman, is an eco-friendly home designed for sustainable living.

Tickets are $10 in advance and available through Sunday at White Rock Coffee, Green Spot Market & Fuels and some Tom Thumb stores. They are also available at the door for $15.

Each ticket includes access to all five mid-century modern homes in the White Rock Lake area and architect meet and greets. Proceeds benefit Hexter Elementary.
