Northwest Highway construction on hold today
Lake Highlands remains under a flood warning and thunderstorm watch through tonight. This is not good news for our already saturated ground and worn-out neighbors.
On Guildhall Drive near Northwest Highway and Audelia, Milt Songy and his family are experiencing what many other homeowners are confronting today - trees torn apart and, in Songy's case, extensive damage to his roof.
Along with other neighbors on the street, they are enlisting the help of friends and family to help clear away debris and dry out flooded garages.
Just down Northwest Highway at Lawther it was business-as-usual during the heavy storms. Entrances to Flag Pole Hill are closed and Goforth Lane remains inaccesible. Large equipment and heavy machinery was even submerged along the highway - more evidence of the much-needed new bridges at this intersection that TXDoT is working to complete.
Much of our area remains without power, but Lake Highlands seems to have faired a little better than our neighbors in Lakewood where downed power lines and miles of uprooted trees created extreme driving hazards. City crews are already working overtime trying to clear public roads.
As for the Songy family, when asked if was the time to call their insurance adjuster about a new roof, Mr. Songy just laughed. "Maybe it's actually time to get started on that second story we've been thinking about." For now let's just make sure it's covered for this evening's next round of storms.
