Summer Camp Series: The Lab at Lakewood
Super cool, hands-on fun at The Lab
You've got to love a place that has only three rules.

• No broken heads
• Be nice
• Have fun

Posted on the wall at The Lab at Lakewood, that's the order of the day – with special emphasis on Rule #3.

When owner, Melissa Wright, made the move from Lake Highlands in March, a collective groan rang out.

I, for one, was especially bummed, having spent time with my kids partaking in things like the slime bar and other cool, hands-on science activities.

Luckily, since reopening at their new location on Junius Street, I've learned that the 10 minute drive is an easy one – and well worth it to stay tapped in at this super cool spot.

"I hope everyone realizes how close we still are," Melissa told me during a recent visit.

"We want to see all our friends from Lake Highlands. We're really just around the corner."

With summer camps on tap for the remainder of the month, it's a no-brainer.

You've simply got to get the kids to The Lab for some of these great classes:

Art Meets Science
July 11th - 15th

A whole week of take-home art projects with special science correlations; sure to stimulate aspiring scientists and artists.

Let's Get Physical!
July 18th - 22nd

Rockets, Bridges & Air, oh my! This camp will combine physical science and engineering. Great for math geeks, too!

SCI: Science Camp Investigates
July 25th - 29th

Participants will collect evidence, learn how their bodies and brains work, and find out whether magic really exists.

The Lab's camps run daily from 9:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. and are $200 per week.

If the full week isn't something you can squeeze in, daily drop-ins are welcome with an advance phone call or email to let the team know you're coming.

"We just need to plan for supplies, so if mom or dad can give us 24 hours notice, we can accommodate day campers," says Melissa.

Don't forget about those birthday parties, too.

The same rules apply for special events, so no matter when you show up, you know cool, hands-on science fun will be the order of the day!

The Lab at Lakewood is located at 5304 Junius Street in Dallas.

Visit their website here or call 214.901.4280 for more details or to reserve a spot for camp.

Watch for Melissa's appearance on Good Morning Texas, debuting later this month, and check out her recent interview with Ashley Roberts at CW 33.
