If you’re planning a family road trip this holiday weekend, you’re probably on your way out of town already. We hope you have a safe, relaxing weekend.

But if you aren’t the Griswolds and your idea of fun is staying close to home, there are plenty of Memorial Day weekend activities right here in Lake Highlands.

Here’s a quick rundown of what to do in our community over the next few days:



The Dallas Symphony Orchestra is performing its annual Memorial Day Concert at Flagpole Hill. The patriotic show starts at 8 pm Monday evening.

The KayCee Club Pool on Shoreview opens to member families and their guests this Saturday. On Memorial Day, the club will have a DJ spinning tunes and the outdoor grill open from 11 am to 6 pm.

Launa’s Little Library on Spring Branch in White Rock Valley is hosting the 4th Annual Things on Wheels Memorial Day Parade. The parade of wagons, bikes and scooters starts at 10:30 am Monday at White Rock Elementary.

The Lake Highlands YMCA is celebrating Community Day on Saturday from 11 am to 3 pm. Community Day marks the beginning of summer at the YMCA, and the group is offering a free day of activities and fun.

The Audelia Road Library Friends Book Sale is Sunday from 2 to 4 pm. The library invites all in the Lake Highlands community to stop by and shop for great deals on mostly used books.

Entertainer and family favorite Eddie Coker will perform his children’s concert Monday at the Dallas Arboretum. Families will have two opportunities to hear Coker sing, at 11 am and 2 pm on the Martin Rutchik Concert Stage.

The East Lake Veterinary Hospital will hold an estate sale Friday through Sunday to benefit homeless pets at its orphanage. Stop by 8358 San Fernanado Way in Forest Hills from 9 am to 5 pm to find treasures and help the homeless pets.

Finally, if you can’t stand a dirty car any longer, LULAC is hosting a car wash Saturday from 9 am to 3 pm in front drive of Lake Highlands High School.
