Another district title for Lake Highlands
Luckily, sloppy conditions didn't keep the Wildcats from claiming their third district title in the month of October.
The 'Cats boys team, lead by Meron Fessahaie, took home first place while the girls team claimed third.
Fessahaie, a LHHS junior, continued his impressive season by obliterating the district field.
He finished with a time of 15:53 which was 1:02 faster than the second place finisher, David Rayo from Skyline.
Another Wildcat junior, Eyobe Tamene, had a great district meet as well, finishing in third place with a time of 17:07.
On the girls side, senior team captain Grace Devaney and freshman Sarah Shaw were the top runners from Lake Highlands, finishing 7th and 8th respectively.
Head Coach, Alonna Knott commented on the ‘Cats performance. “We huddled before the start of the race, and I told them not to worry about the mud and just remember that the top 10 advance to Regionals."
“We expected the boys team to do well, and they did, but I’m really impressed with how the girls ran," says Knott. "They’ve progressed well this season and had a great district meet.”
District champ Meron Fessahaie was already looking toward Regionals. “I came into the season expecting to do well at district. It was a fun race today, but my goal this season has always been to perform well at the regional races.”
Regionals are scheduled for Saturday November 7th at Vandergriff Park in Arlington. The girls run first with a start time of 8:45 a.m. The boys team follows at at 9:10 a.m.
