OneDAY Service is arriving soon - get ready LH!

QUESTION: My service is being cut in half with weekly collection; does this also mean my Sanitation bill will be cut in half?

ANSWER: OneDAY is not “cutting service in half” it’s actually rebalancing the number of times the City picks up garbage (decreased to once-a-week under OneDAY) and recycling (increased to once-a-week under OneDAY). This rebalance is based on an analysis of needs across the city. Most households don’t use or need twice weekly collection of garbage. And those who did have found that since they’ve been recycling, nearly half the things they used to throw away now go into the recycling roll cart.

(This is really good news for the landfills!)

The Sanitation bill was reduced, so you’re already getting those savings now. The Sanitation fee was reduced by 64 cents per month in October 2009. This reduction was largely because of savings realized by the conversion of 62,000 households to OneDAY in previous years. As more people start recycling under the OneDAY program in March, additional savings could be realized and will be considered as the City prepares its budget for the next fiscal year. Keep recycling – and we can maximize those savings!

QUESTION: How will I know what can be recycled?

ANSWER: A list with pictures of recyclable items is printed onto the top of the blue recycling roll cart. You can also visit http://www.OneDAYDallas.com to find out what goes into the cart. If you still have questions, you can call 311.

QUESTION: When does OneDAY start?

ANSWER: March 1, 2010.

QUESTION: Where can I get more information?

ANSWER: Visit http://www.OneDAYDallas.com or call 214-671-8877.

But, really guys - if you take a look at the map, and can wheel your cart to the curb, you've really done all you need to... you're ready to recycle smart!
