Fast forward several months, and that new logo officially marks the first jcpenney store inside the loop since 1999.
TimberCreek Crossing, currently home to the new Walmart and Sam's Club, celebrated the opening of the new 105,000-square-foot store this morning.
A ribbon cutting ceremony welcomed City Councilmember Sheffie Kadane, jcpenney executives and representatives from the East Dallas Boys and Girls Club.
A $5,000 donation was presented to the club on behalf of jcpenney's support of after school programs and educational initiatives related to math, science and robotics.
Sarah Kelleher, who's in corporate communications for jcpenney, says the company is looking forward to connecting with the community on several levels.

The J.C. Penney Company moved its corporate headquarters to Plano in 1992 and currently employees approximately 8,500 people in the North Texas area.
The TimberCreek location brings an estimated 160 new jobs to Northeast Dallas.
Inside the new store, shoppers will find a portrait studio, full-service salon and the highly-touted 1,700 square foot Sephora.
This popular brand specializes in makeup, skincare, fragrance, bath and accessory products.
The new jcpenney has also earned certification by Department of Energy’s Net-Zero Energy Project as a Energy Star store.
High efficiency heating and cooling units, LED lights throughout the store, and the use of double-layer insulation and skylights are designed to achieve energy savings of 50% or more compared to similar new construction not employing the Energy Star guidelines.
The TimberCreek Shopping Center is located at the northwest corner of Skillman and Northwest Highway.
jcpenney is located at 6051 Skillman Street.
The store is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
