The LHHS boys basketball team opened their season against Plano West on Tuesday night, but things didn't get off on the right foot in the 70-47 loss in front of the Lake Highlands home crowd. Junior Beau Barnes had 15 points for the 'Cats, while James Lonergan pitched in 11 and Travis Hornstein added nine.
Unlike last year, the 'Cats have a number of home games early in the season.

The Lake Highlands wrestling team has been dominant thus far this season.Last Saturday, the ‘Cats stormed into Keller High School on Saturday hungry to maintain the momentum they had gained in a decisive 73-6 season opening victory of Wylie. They did just that.
The first dual of the day the ‘Cats fought it out on the center mat with the home team. Keller never stood a chance, as the LH squad won every match handily and took the 75-0 victory. The Lake Highlands varsity wrestling team started the season off on a big note with a dominating win over Wylie on Tuesday night, 73 to 6. Several 'Cats registered pins in the first period including Jorge Vargas, Biak Thang, Yordi Calix, Lee Lueder, Parker Starr and Ryan Branch. Yordi Calix needed all of ten seconds to pin his opponent.
The best match of the night pitted Nathan Schulman against Wylie's Augustus Kortemeir, which could turn out to be a preview for the District 18 final in the 138 lb. weight class. While a competitive match, Schulman took care of business…

Bright and early at 6:30 a.m. last Saturday, many students at Lake Highlands High School were just going to sleep after celebrating a resounding Homecoming victory for the football team over Sunset.The cross country team at Lake Highlands, on the other hand, was warming up at Norbuck Park for the Jesuit Cross Country Meet. The ‘Cats ran well, especially considering those Homecoming festivities of the night before.

While there was a district volleyball game to be played on Tuesday night, it was also the scene of the 3rd Annual Pink Out night in honor of the 'Cats for the Cure fundraiser. For third year in a row, the LHHS gym was awash in pink during the game against Skyline as the Lady 'Cats also worked to raise awareness for cancer.
You might remember the story of Lake Highlands High School student Emily Obenhaus, who three years ago was diagnosed with cancer which galvanized her teammates to begin a cancer awareness campaign – 'Cats for the Cure.
