The small gym at LHHS was packed full of wrestling fans last Friday night.

Those in attendance watched the Wildcats battle all three Richardson schools in the City Quad Championship.

Truth be told, the ‘Cats totally dominated all three Richardson schools, winning the quad by a combined score of 216-30.

LHHS beat Richardson 79-3
LHHS beat Pearce 68-15
LHHS beat Berkner 69-12

The City Quad win pushes the ‘Cats team record to 17-0, including four tournament championships.

Helping the team win the City Quad, and remaining undefeated on the season, where state ranked senior ‘Cats Isaac Kinsella, Isaac Grieder and Ebrima Njie. Kinsella and Grieder are both 23-0 on the season, while Njie is 20-0.

Wrestlers who went 3-0 at the quad were:

Seniors Drew Llorett, Isaac Kinsella, Robbie Penny, Matthew Keath, John Powers, Isaac Grieder, Brent Bono, Ebrima Njie and Travon Starks.

Junior Reid Zambordino and sophomores Duncan Mcaulay and Nathan Schulman also went 3-0.

"I thought the team wrestled well and definitely let the other district schools know that the Wildcats are for real,” Wildcat Head Coach Pete Grieder said of the City Quad win.

Heading into the winter break, the ‘Cats are now ranked 4th in the state. They resume the season with the State Dual Qualifiers meet at Allen High School on January 2nd.

Both basketball teams were in action last Friday night, as well, but they didn’t fair as well as the Wrestlers.

The boys took on Skyline at home and lost 72-60, while the girls team played at Skyline and lost 69-47.

Leading scorers for the boys team were Demarcus Bernard (16 points), Trey Bingham (9 points) and Aaron Mazibuko (8 points).

The Lady ‘Cats are now 2-1 in district play, while the boys dropped their first district game and are now 7-8 on the season.

Both teams return to district action early this week against Sunset.

Boys tip-off tonight at 8:00 p.m. at Sunset, while the girls play at home tomorrow, December 22nd, at 7:30 p.m.
