After dropping their last two games to Mesquite Horn and Garland, the 'Cats get to push the reset button tonight as District 9-5A play begins.
Now 1-2 on the season, and coming off a much needed bye-week, Lake Highlands faces the Spartans from Dallas Samuell for their first district game of the season.
If all goes as planned, Samuell (0-3) should provide a great opportunity for the 'Cats to get a bit of their swagger back.
"We play a tough non-district schedule – no doubt about it," said Head Coach Scott Smith.
"We want to play teams that challenge us. As much as we want to be 3-0 right now, we feel like we got better week to week because of who we play."
"While we'd always take more wins, we still feel good about where we are right now."
"This is no different than day one of two-a-days," Smith continued.
"It's a process. We try to get better everyday with everything we do. When we hit district, the process doesn't change. Our goals are still all out in front of us."
"We need to focus on what we do well, and what we don't do so well, and how to get better at it. Our weakness right now is executing on a consistent basis on both sides of the ball."
Led by Desmond Roland's five rushing touchdowns, last year's contest against Samuell was a 56-7 blowout with the 'Cats scoring touchdowns on their first five possessions of the game.
With starting quarterback Michael Ketchmark still mending an injury, Trent Jones will get another chance to run the offense after a tough outing in his first start two weeks ago against Garland.
"Trent is getting better each week," Smith said of his junior quarterback.
"Garland was a huge learning experience for him. Are there things he can get better at – you bet."
"But, as far as running the offense like we expect, Trent does a great job."
"He just needs to get more reps and become comfortable with the speed of the game. We expect big things from him."
Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Boneyard.
As usual, we'll be broadcasting the game LIVE right HERE on LH Today with our pre-game show starting approximately 20 minutes prior to kick-off.
