In sports, a team's success is often measured by its performance in the post season.
That's good news for the Lake Highlands Cross Country team, as the post season began with a strong showing on October 28th at the District 9-5A championship meet.
On the boys team, all seven runners placed in the Top 21 overall, taking home a solid second place finish just behind cross country powerhouse, Jesuit.
Junior Ebenether Wondaferew led the Wildcats with a time of 17:36 over the 5 kilometer (3.1 mile) course.
Sophomore John Bugni represented the underclassmen well with a time of 17:49, good enough for eighth place.
Although the boys fell just short of their goal of a district title, Coach Miller and the rest of the team were happy with their performance.
The girls, led by junior Sara Shaw, also qualified for Regionals with their third place finish behind Skyline and Richardson.
Shaw was the only Lady 'Cat in the Top 10, as she ran 13:04 over the two-mile course, earning third in the competitive girls race.
Unlike last year when they lost the bid, this year the girls accomplished their main goal for the season – qualifying for Regionals!
The Regional meet takes place Saturday, November 5th at 9:00 a.m. at Vandergriff Park in Arlington.
Come out and support the Wildcats on their way to state.
GO 'CATS!
