‘Cats drop Game 2 in Bi-District series

‘Cats drop Game 2 in Bi-District series
....and the team meets him at home plate.

The Bi-District playoff series currently underway between the Rowlett Eagles and the Lake Highlands Wildcats isn't for the faint of heart.

After a dramatic win in Game 1, the 'Cats traveled to Rowlett for Game 2 of the series, looking to advance in the state playoffs with a win.

The game remained scoreless through 2 ½ innings, but in the bottom of the third, the Eagles scored first after a double, sac-bunt and then an RBI single gave Rowlett the 1-0 lead.

Junior Blake Woodson tied the game in the top of the 4th inning with a monster solo home run over the right field wall. This was the first of two homers in the game for Woodson, who now has 10 home runs on the season and is one of the top hitters in the DFW area with a .511 batting average.

With the score tied 1-1, Rowlett took to the plate in the bottom of the 5th inning and quickly had a runner in scoring position after a single and yet another sac-bunt.

The Eagles scored and took the lead after a throwing error by the 'Cats brought the runner home. The error was the first for the 'Cats in 24 innings of play.

In the top of the 6th, Woodson smashed his second homer of the game, again over the right field wall. Woodson's two run shot gave the 'Cats their first lead of the game.

'Cats pitcher Dylan Porter took the 3-2 lead into the bottom of the 6th, and appeared to take command of the game by striking out three Eagles.

In the top of the 7th, Rowlett made quick work of the Wildcats, giving Porter a chance to close out the game, and the series, with a complete game win.

However, the Eagles loaded the bases off a walk, a hit batter and a bunt single. With the bases loaded and no outs, Coach Higgins relieved Porter with senior Ryan Browder who had been playing left field all game.

Browder was unable to get the 'Cats out of the bases loaded jam and the game ended after an Eagles base hit to center field brought home two runs. The 4-3 win for Rowlett tied the series at a game apiece.

The rubber match of the series is set for Saturday afternoon at LHHS.

First pitch is at 1:00 p.m.
