Undefeated in District 9-5A play, the Lady 'Cats volleyball team will make a short trip north tonight to face off against their district rival – the Lady Eagles of Richardson High School.
Winning yet another district title, their fourth in a row, is the obvious team goal heading into tonight's match.
However, another goal – a more individual one – is on the minds of Lady 'Cats players and sisters, Matalee and Morgan Reed.
Soak it all in and enjoy every moment.
I caught up with the Reed sisters to chat about the experience of having the opportunity to play together on the varsity squad.
Since Morgan is a freshman, and Matalee a senior, it wasn't a given they'd have the chance to compete together.
But together they are, and they're are doing it with style, as both sisters currently rank amongst the best in the DFW area.
Of course it’s expected of Matalee, a two-time All-American who has earned a scholarship to play at Pepperdine next year.
Matalee currently averages 6.34 kills per game (355 on the season) and is ranked second in the DFW area.
However, only in her freshman year, Morgan now leads the entire DFW area in assists per game, averaging 10.11 per game and ranking 7th in the area in total assists with 859.
Just having the chance to play together has been a treat, but it wasn't something the sisters spent too much time thinking about – until it became a real possibility this summer during volleyball camp.
"We had talked about it a little bit," says Matalee. "But for most part I think we didn't talk about it until we were sure, because we didn't want to jinx it."
"The first time that I actually came to realize we could be playing together was about a week before tryouts."
"Morgan had been pulled up on the varsity court and was doing well, so it started to seem very possible that I could get to play with her."
For Morgan, following in her sister’s footsteps and making varsity as a freshman has been a goal for a long time.
"Being a freshman on varsity has been a dream of mine for a long time, especially after my sister made it as a freshman," says Morgan.
"I had talked to my parents about it, and they said that if I work hard it could happen, but at the same time I didn't want to become too focused on it."
At summer volleyball camp, Morgan's play as a setter stood out and she quickly moved to the varsity court, where she earned a starting spot on the varsity squad.

It's a family affair for these Lady Wildcat volleyball stars. Matalee and Morgan Reed have Lake Highlands set up for yet another District 9-5A title.
