Epic game ends Wildcat season
'Cats prepare for battle with Tyler John Tyler.

It will likely be a long time before Lake Highlands, Texas sees another football game like the one played at the Boneyard Friday night.

For the fans who braved the rain, they’ll never forget it.

Just like last year, the game came down to a couple plays.

Unlike last year, it was Tyler John Tyler who escaped with the win.

As most of the talking heads predicted, both TJHS and Lake Highlands had no problem moving the ball and scoring at will.

The first quarter resembled more of a track meet than a football game.

Both teams scored on their first two possessions, but the Lions defense was first to slow things down and forced a Wildcat field goal early in the second quarter.

The 'Cats took the lead 17-14 after senior kicker Jason Dann hit from 26 yards out.

In the end, the next 9:00 of football would prove to be the difference in the game. Tyler scored touchdowns on their next three possessions, while the Wildcats would score just one more touchdown in the first half.

With the halftime score 36-23 in favor of the Lions, the game appeared to be slipping away from Lake Highlands.

“We went into the locker room knowing full well the game was still in reach,” says Head Coach Scott Smith. “Like every other game we’ve been behind in this year, it was more about what we weren’t doing, rather than what the other team was. We just needed to do a better job executing and doing what we do - plain and simple.”

The third quarter opened up with a rejuvenated Wildcat defense finally putting the breaks on quarterback Jeremy Johnson and the rest of the Lions high powered offense.

For the first time in the game, the Lions were held out of the end-zone, having to settle for a 30-yard field goal. With the score 39-23 and just over 7 minutes to go in the third quarter, the game was still within reach for the 'Cats.

Down by 16 points, the Wildcat offense dropped the hammer on the Lions. They had no answer for the one-two punch of Ricky Zorn and Desmond Roland.
