Coming off an impressive win over W.T. White, the Lake Highlands Wildcats (3-2, 2-0) return to the Boneyard for the 2011 Homecoming game tonight against Sunset (1-4, 0-2).
The Wildcats are currently on a two game district win streak and are looking to the Sunset game as an opportunity to better their play while balancing the revelry of Homecoming festivities.
"There are some things we need to be working on," said Head Coach Scott Smith.
"We talked about it this week with the guys."
"We need to keep focused and not let the distractions of Homecoming get to us."
"As coaches, we have to remember these are high school kids and this is Homecoming. We want them to enjoy everything but I've told them, you're going to enjoy it a lot more with a win."
As the team gets into the meat of the district schedule, Smith talked about how the squad is improving each week.
"We're excited about where we are right now," he said.
"Each week we've implemented new wrinkles in the offense, but on the flip side, defensively we've had the chance to solidify what we want to hang our hats on scheme wise."
"After this week, we will have seen three distinct offenses that we've had to prepare for - that should help us in the next four weeks."
Defensively, the 'Cats are looking to improve on their impressive showing against W.T. White.
Coach Smith talked about one of the defensive leaders, Jacquille Myles, who had an interception against the Longhorns.
"Jacquille is natural corner with great feet, great hips and he's highly intelligent," Smith said of his senior defensive back.
"He's not afraid to strike you and has made some really big tackles this year. Not too many balls thrown his way end up being completed."
"He's playing at a pretty high level but has room for improvement, like all the guys do."
If all goes as planned for Jacquille and the rest of the 'Cats starters tonight, they'll see limited action since Sunset is a team Lake Highlands has outscored a combined 189-0 over the past three seasons.
As usual, you can listen to the game LIVE right HERE on LH Today.
Our pre-game show will begin at approximately 7:15 p.m. with kick-off set for 7:30 p.m.
