Two weeks ago the LHHS Lady 'Cats volleyball team played their last home game of the season against the Richardson Eagles.
A win streak of 50 games was on the line and the RHS Lady Eagles wanted desperately to end a history of Lake Highlands District 9-5A dominance.
While the Lady 'Cats won the match, it was a wake-up call for Lake Highlands as they needed all five games to get the W against Richardson.
That competitive match between the district rivals set the stage for Tuesday night's rematch at Richardson High School – the final district match of the season for both teams.
Richardson needed a win to force a play-in game, while the Lady 'Cats needed a win to capture their fourth consecutive district title and keep their amazing district win streak intact.
True to form, the Lady Eagles put up a good fight, winning the first game of the match.
However, the Lady 'Cats shrugged off the bump in the road put the Lady Eagles away in four games (24-26, 25-11, 25-18, 25-13).
First year Lady 'Cats head coach, Shelly Massey, was pleased with how the squad focused and accomplished one of their goals for the season – yet another district title.
With a district win streak now at 54 games, keeping the Lady 'Cats focused during their district run was key for Massey.
"Yes, I do feel there's a need to keep the girls from getting complacent," she said.
"I had them challenge themselves each match with individual goals and team goals. The biggest challenge for me was getting everyone one on board with the new system."
"The district title feels great because our girls have worked so hard this season, through injuries, sicknesses, and change," Massey said.
"I am so proud of each and every girl and coach."
After clearing space in the trophy case for another district trophy, the team will get ready for their bi-district playoff match against Garland Naaman Forest, which is set to be played at Berkner High School on Tuesday, November 1st.
The match will get started at 6:00 p.m.
This will be the third year in a row the Lady 'Cats have faced Naaman Forest in the first round of the playoffs. They'll look to make it three wins in a row next Tuesday night.
Best of luck to Coach Massey and the Lady 'Cats squad!
