After starting the week off by defeating Creekview in straight games, the Lady 'Cats took on Molina Friday night and the results were much of the same.
The Wildcats beat Molina in straight games: 25-7, 25-7, 25-8.
The win brings the ‘Cats district record to 7-0 with Skyline and Sunset on tap for this week.
“Both Molina and Creekview challenged us in the sense that we had to use these matches to get better,” says Head Coach Melissa Christman.
“Focus is key and we are doing a much better job of handling free balls from our opponents.”
Senior Caroline Henton drew praise from Coach Chistman.
“I’m not sure what it is about her, but she just consistently dominates late in games. It’s like clockwork,” says Christman. "She comes on so strong late in matches and seems to be able to rattle off six to eight kills in a row - just when we need them.”
On the injury front, freshman Bonnie Vernon has been given a clean bill of health after suffering an ankle sprain while playing in the Allen tournament back in August.
“We are easing Bonnie back into things and using her in the middle and on the right side,” explains Christman. “She brings so much intensity to the court for us, and we are glad to have her back, but at the same time, we don’t want to rush her.”
The Lady Wildcats go on the road Tuesday night to face off against Skyline. JV plays at 5:30 p.m. Varsity follows at 6:30 p.m.
Next Friday night, the Wildcats return home to face Sunset and will be giving special recognition to their senior Lady 'Cats. Start times again are 5:30 p.m. for JV and 6:30 p.m. for Varsity.
The ‘Cats would also like to remind everyone of their annual fall fundraiser. Pansies for sale again this year!
The Varsity and Junior Varsity volleyball players have received their pansy sales packets and are ready to take your order. Flats are the same price as last year at $18 per flat or $15 if you buy 3 or more. Pansy Delivery day is scheduled for October 17th.
