Coming off a 78-6 dual win over Jesuit last Tuesday, the 'Cats were looking to gain some late season momentum with a win at the Jesuit Tournament on Saturday.
Standing in their way of the tournament title was the state's #9 ranked team, San Antonio Reagan.
The 'Cats entered the tournament ranked #7 in the state, but remain handicapped by the absence of three key members of the varsity squad due to injury - seniors Isaac Kinsella, Robert Penny and Coleman Vigil.
Even without Kinsellla, Penny and Vigil, the 'Cats narrowly missed taking home the tournament title, losing to SA Reagan by only 1.5 points.
The 'Cats scored 161.5 points and finished 2nd out of 24 teams.
Individual tournament champions included senior Isaac Grieder and Sophomore Nathan Schulman.
Schulman is now 26-6 on the season, while Grieder is undefeated with a record of 45-0 and is currently ranked as the state's top wrestler in the 160lb. weight class.
Seniors Ebrima Njie and Alfred Ngang both finished in second place in their respective weight classes, while junior Reid Zambardino and sophomore Biak Thang had a great showing with third place finishes.
As usual, the JV wrestlers dominated and took home the tournament title by a wide margin.
Nine JV wrestlers took home individual championships. They were sophomores Jorge Vargas, Yordi Calix, Henry Offord, Derek Fritz and Ryan Branch and freshmen D’Andre Neroes and Rodger Williams.
Placing second were sophomores Adyson Gorischek and Trace Mears and freshman Blake Lueder.
Placing third were seniors JJ Floyd and Jared Taylor, sophomore Parker Starr and freshmen Dandre Brumfield and Nate Villasana.
