The game against Molina went about as expected.
The 52-0 victory on Senior Night sent the Class of 2010 out with a bang.
The highlight of the night came on the opening kick-off when senior wide receiver, Wesley Garth scored from 96-yards out.
Garth’s kick-off return was the longest scoring play of the season for the Wildcats.
Junior running back Desmond Roland and freshman quarterback Michael Ketchmark each had two touchdowns on the night.
For the second week in a row, senior quarterback Ricky Zorn started the game, but his snaps were limited as a precautionary measure due to a minor injury.
With the win over Molina, the ‘Cats finished the regular season with an overall record of 8-2 and a District 9-5A record of 6-1, which was good for a second place finish.
While second place wasn’t the goal at the start of the season, finishing runner up to Skyline is nothing to be disappointed with, seeing how Skyline is one of the best teams in the entire country this year.
The win over Molina last Friday night capped off district play with a six game win streak. Average margin for the Wildcats during their streak was 38 points.
As good as the Lake Highlands offense is at putting points on the board, the Wildcat defense just might be the story of the year.
The ‘Cats defense finished the regular season ranked #1 in the DFW area, giving up an average of only 216 yards per game.
Junior defensive lineman and team captain, Tre’ Stewart, talked about the defensive unit’s performance this season.
“We’ve played well because of our team speed. Our goals this season were real simple. They were all about the little things that put us in a position to win," Stewart said.
"Run to the ball, win the one on one battles and do your job - that's what it's about. We’ve done a pretty good job of focusing on these goals all season.”
