Wildcats defeat Carrollton Creekview
Junior running back Desmond Roland goes for 220 yards and 3 TD's against Creekview

The Wildcats traveled across the metroplex Friday night to face off against the Mustangs of Carrollton Creekview at Standridge Stadium.

Riding a four game win streak in district 9-5A play, the ‘Cats continue to get better each week in every facet of the game.

Their win streak has afforded the ‘Cats some respect in the state rankings, with several polls ranking the ‘Cats in the Top 20.

For some odd reason, Creekview decided to schedule the Wildcats for their homecoming game – not such a good idea.

Defensively, the Wildcats showed up at the top of the area rankings this week, earning the #1 spot in the metroplex and giving up an average of only 229 yards per game.

On offense, the ‘Cats are averaging 420 yards per game and currently hold the 13th spot in area polls.

Offensively, senior quarterback Ricky Zorn and junior running back Desmond Roland have both done much of the heavy lifting this season. However, both have seen their playing time limited recently due to minor injuries.

Roland sat out the entire game in last week’s blowout win over WT White, and it was unknown if Zorn would play against the Mustangs Friday night.

Zorn did end up starting against the Mustang but played only one play, which turned out to be a 30-yard pass completion to sophomore wide receiver Devonte Sunwengham.

Freshman quarterback Michael Ketchmark took over from there. On the next play of the game, Ketchmark handed the ball off to Roland who went untouched for his first of three TD’s on the night.

Roland would finish the game with 209 yards on 22 carries. He also accounted for the biggest play of the night - a dazzling 64-yard scamper on a third and 29 play (see 3:21 mark on highlight video).

The play was the result of the ‘Cats version of the Wildcat formation, in which Roland lined up as the quarterback and rushed off tackle and then proceeded to take it to the house.
