"Someone has to lose."

It's a common phrase you hear after games like the one played at the Boneyard Friday night.

Unfortunately for the Lake Highlands Wildcats, they happen to be the "someone" who lost the gridiron heart breaker for the second week in a row.

Jesuit's offense was the story of the game.

They ran a mind boggling 91 plays in regulation and ended the double overtime game with 641 yards in total offense.

Most of Jesuit's damage came predictably from juniors Jake Oliver and Garrett Van de Ven.

Oliver had 15 receptions for 187 yards and two touchdowns, while Van de Ven ran for 182 yards and three touchdowns, including the game winning three-yard rushing touchdown in the second overtime.

Jesuit quarterback, Brian Buell, threw for 349 yards and four touchdowns.

Meanwhile, it took two full quarters – and perhaps a good amount of halftime persuasion by the Lake Highlands coaches – for the 'Cats offense to come to life.

Jesuit's efficiency on offense was certainly a challenge for the 'Cats defense, but their offensive counterparts didn't help matters much by running only 15 plays in the first half, constituting the worst two quarters of offensive output all season by Lake Highlands.

Regardless, two big plays kept the game within reach – a 60-yard touchdown reception by Michael Wright and a 25-yard rushing score by Jacobi Johnson.

Down 28-14 at halftime, a fake punt on the 'Cats opening drive in the second half seemed to spark the 'Cats offense.

By the end of the third quarter, the game was tied 28-28 with the help of a 25-yard touchdown reception by Johnson and a rushing TD scored by DeVonte Sunwenghan, which was scored out of the Wildcat formation.

While he was shut down in the first half, Sunwenghan ended the game with 138 rushing yards and two touchdowns – all coming in the second half and overtime periods.

Combined, quarterbacks Michael Ketchmark (11 for 17, 157 yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT) and Trent Jones (2 for 3, 70 yards and 1 TD) had 13 receptions on 22 attempts for 227 passing yards, three TD's and one interception in the game.

In the end, the four Wildcat turnovers were their undoing – the last coming in the second overtime period, putting Jesuit in a position to score the game winning TD.

With their second loss in a row, the Wildcats are now tied for third place in District 9-5A. They face playoff uncertainty with just two games remaining on the schedule.

Lake Highlands travels to Forrester Field on Friday night to try and pull off a win against the undefeated Skyline Raiders.

If you can't make the game, be sure to join us right here on LH Today. Our LIVE streaming broadcast will begin at approximately 7:15 p.m. with kick-off set for 7:30 p.m.
