DeVonte Sunwenghan entered last year's contest against Jesuit expecting to carry the load for Lake Highlands.
With an injured Desmond Roland having to sit out the game, it was his time to shine.
And shine he did, with four touchdowns and 325 total rushing and receiving yards. Can history repeat itself?
Tonight is Senior Night at the Boneyard, Black Out is sponsored by longtime Wildcat supporter Herb's Paint & Body, and Sunwenghan and his teammates need very little extra motivation to get ready for tonight's game, which represents the last home game for the seniors on the Lake Highlands squad.
However, on the heels of an especially bitter loss to Berkner, the senior running back made it clear, the train is not off the tracks and the 'Cats are ready to compete.
"Even though the Berkner game didn't go our way, it gave us a wake up call," said Sunwenghan.
"Practice this week has been outstanding for both the coaches and players. Everybody has been putting 100% in, and all I can say is I hope Jesuit is ready because we are going to show up and show out."
If the Berkner loss isn't enough to motivate him, thinking about his performance against the Rangers last season certainly does.
"Yes, it actually does motivate me. I know if I could do it last year, I can do it again this year. You know, the saying - history repeats itself. I'm going to make sure that happens."
While it appears Sunwenghan is ready to put on a show against the Rangers, the determining factor against Jesuit will likely be the Wildcat defense and their ability to stop Jesuit's high powered offense.
Given the fact that starting quarterback, Jack Brezette, was sidelined early this season with a broken leg, you have to marvel at the efficiency of the Ranger offense.
Back-up QB, Brian Buell, has done an impressive job in Brezette's absence. He's completed nearly 67% of his passes, throwing for 17 TD's and only one interception.
Six Ranger wide receivers have double digit receptions on the season with the bell cow for the Rangers being junior wide receiver, Jake Oliver.
At 6'4'', Oliver is a big target who runs like a deer. He has 72 receptions for 1,072 yards which is an astounding 15 yards per catch.
After Oliver, it doesn't get much easier with their number two wide out, John Berend, averaging 14 yards per catch with 27 receptions for 386 yards on the season.
While it's clear the Rangers are dangerous with their vertical game, they'll hurt you on the ground, as well.
Their rushing totals aren't eye opening, but they give you different looks with five players rushing for over 100 yards on the season.
Garrett Van de Ven is the Rangers leading rusher with 46 carries for 249 yards and four touchdowns on the season.
Clearly, the 'Cats defense will have their work cut out for them tonight at the Boneyard.
Also on hand tonight will be several members of the 1961 LHHS football team who will be honored for the 50th anniversary of the inaugural season for Wildcat football.
As usual, if you can't make the game, tune in right HERE on LH Today. The live pregame show will start at 7:05 p.m. tonight with kick-off set for 7:30 p.m.
