‘Cats clip the Eagles in Game 1 of Area round

‘Cats clip the Eagles in Game 1 of Area round
The Wildcats pick up a big 11-8 win in Game 1 of their Area round playoff series against Killeen Ellison!

The Eagles kept things interesting with a strong four run rally in the bottom of the 6th, but ‘Cats starting pitcher, Judson Luther, kept his composure and picked up yet another complete game win.

On Luther’s performance, Coach Higgins liked what he saw out of his starting pitcher. “He had another gutsy effort tonight, mixing his pitches well and fighting all the way.”

We caught up with Eagles Head Coach, Craig Martin, after the game who was matter of fact about the match-up.

“We came out flat, and they didn’t,” Martin said.

“Our starting pitcher wasn’t throwing his best stuff and the Wildcats took advantage. You’ve got to give credit to the Wildcats. They took advantage of their scoring opportunities, and we didn’t.”

Junior Blake Woodson led the way for the ‘Cats at the plate – registering four RBI’s in the game, bringing his season RBI total to well over 50.

Judson Luther was the winning pitcher for the ‘Cats, striking out nine Eagles on his way to the complete game win.

Coach Martin confirmed that the ‘Cats will face the Eagles best pitcher in Cal Somerville in Game 2 on Saturday.

Game 2 is set for a 12:00 p.m. first pitch on Saturday at LHHS. If necessary, Game 3 will be begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game 2.

In the event of a rain-out, an attempt to play Game 2 will made at an alternate location.

Prior to the beginning of the series, it was determined that Lorena High School would be the alternate field. Lorena is located just south of Waco on I-35.

Should the field in Lorena also be deemed unplayable due to wet conditions, the series will likely be called after just one game and the ‘Cats would advance. It’s possible the UIL would allow the teams to play on Monday, but it's highly unlikely.

Regardless of when or where the next game is played, LH Today will be on location to provide you with another LIVE broadcast. Click HERE for link to live broadcast.
