‘Cats fall to Patriots in bi-district thriller

‘Cats fall to Patriots in bi-district thriller
Junior guard Luke Coughlin leads the fastbreak for the 'Cats. Coughlin scored 5 points in the game, all coming during the fierce 4th quarter comeback

With the help of sophomore forward Travis Hornstein, and junior guards David Harris and Luke Coughlin, the ‘Cats managed to take the momentum from the Patriots in the final minutes of the 3rd quarter.

Hornstein’s 5-footer as the buzzer sounded to end the 3rd quarter made it a 10 point game heading into the final quarter.

From that point on, it was a 3-point fest for the ‘Cats. Harris led the way with an amazing four three pointer in the 4th quarter, while Hornstein and Coughlin also nailed jumpers from behind the arc.

Zorn was quietly putting on a clinic, aggressively driving to the basket and scoring often from the inside against the taller Patriot players.

However, with just 1:07 remaining in the game, Zorn’s basketball career would come to an end after he fouled out of the game on a charge call.

Zorn left the game as the leading scorer on the night with 25 points. He scored 74 points in his final three games as a Wildcat.

After Zorn fouled out, David Harris quickly picked up the slack. In the final :45 of the game, Harris hit two 3-pointers to keep everyone on the edge of their seat.

With a slim 81-79 lead, the Patriots were able to hit all their free throws down the stretch, which kept the ‘Cats from taking the lead.

Down 84-82, with :11 seconds to play, the ‘Cats looked to junior Trey Bingham for the final shot, but the Patriots defense forced a pass to senior center Tevin Elmore who ended up taking the final shot of the season.

Not unlike the first match-up of the season, the ‘Cats last second shot against the Patriots didn’t fall, and the season ended with the 84-82 loss.

The game was a four quarter snap shot of the entire season, one filled with highs and lows. In the end, the 'Cats finished the season with pride and fought to the bitter end.

Suffice to say, if last night's 4th quarter performance by the underclassmen is a sign of things to come, look out for the 'Cats next year!
