Wildcat football rolls Molina in district final

Stewart also commented on the Wildcat defensive unit being ranked #1 in the area.

“You really can't avoid paying attention to the rankings, but we aren’t satisfied,” Stewart said.

“Coach Smith (defensive coordinator - Jeff Smith) is quick to keep us level-headed and pushes us hard in practice to get better every week.”

In preparation for the first playoff game, Stewart said the team has already had a chance to watch film on North Garland.

“They're definitely a good football team," he said. "Their offensive line is quick and aggressive. They have a couple very good athletes at both the quarterback and running back positions."

"They try to mix things up a bit so those guys can get the ball in their hands as many times as possible. We have our work cut out for us, that’s for sure.”

Wildcat Head Coach, Scott Smith, said the team is positioned well heading into the playoffs.

“The coaches have done a good job of evaluating the players each week and working with them on things we can correct,” said Smith.

“We think we've improved each week as a team, but to have success in the playoffs a few things need to happen.”

“The team has to be playing well, health needs to be our side, eligibility needs to be on our side and a little luck doesn’t hurt anything,” he added.

“We are very optimistic to have a bunch of those things going for us going into the playoffs.”

Regarding the Wildcat’s bi-district opponent, North Garland, Smith commented on their team speed and aggressive style of play.

“North Garland is a very good football team. We’ve seen some fast defenses this year but none that blitz as much as North Garland does,” explained Smith.

“They run a 3-4 and are fast and physical.”

Lake Highlands is in Region II of Division II.

The bi-district playoff game against North Garland will be played at Eagle Mustang Stadium Friday, November 13th. Kick off is set for 7:30 p.m.

Our congratulations to the team on a great finish to the regular season.

We wish all the Wildcats good luck in the state playoffs!
