Another key contributor in the ‘Cats win Friday night was senior utility man, James Duke.
Duke started the season playing free safety but in recent weeks has seen action on offense and special teams, as well.
On defense and special teams Duke made his presence felt all night, but late in the second quarter he put on a clinic at the wide receiver position.
With the ball at midfield and with just 19 seconds left on the clock before halftime, Duke entered the game and quickly caught two Ketchmark passes, the second of which went for a 17-yard TD with just two ticks left on the clock.
“James is one of the best athletes on the team,” says Head Coach Scott Smith. "He was coming off an injury this summer so we had to ease him into things, but he is performing well for us on defense, offense and special teams.”
The score at the half was 27-7, which allowed the coaching staff to clear the bench again this week. With the post season right around the corner, gaining valuable playing time for nearly the entire team is a nice luxury. Final score, 37-7.
Key Stats on the night:
‘Cats offense: 491 total yards, 314 rushing, 177 passing
‘Cats defense: 237 yards allowed, 61 rushing, 176 passing
Desmond Roland - 220 total yards, 3 TD’s
