Facing off against the state's top ranked team, Garland Lakeview Centennial, the 'Cats had a lot to worry about heading into their Bi-District round on Tuesday night.
Head Coach Rob Wylie noted before the game that it would be important for the 'Cats to contain the Patriot three point shooters. He was absolutely right.
It was a great game for most of the first half with the Wildcats even taking an early seven point lead in the first quarter. Then, with about five minutes left in the second, the Patriots began an offensive assault – raining down three pointers in precision fashion. The impressive scoring spree put the 'Cats on their heels, and down by 23 points, heading into the locker room at halftime.
As hard as it was to watch the 'Cats struggle, the Patriots outside shooting was a sight to behold. They finished the game with 11 three pointers and shot above 50% from behind the arc, often times hitting shots from NBA range.
While the bleeding stopped in the second half, the damage had been done. For the second year in a row, the 'Cats season came to an end at the buzzer of their Bi-District round against the Patriots. This time the game ended in a deflating 98-75 loss.
For the season, the Lake Highlands finished with a 19-14 overall record.
All in all, it was an entertaining roller coaster ride of a season and one that provided several memorable moments. Who will ever forget the come-from-behind win over Skyline this year?
Congrats to Coach Wylie and the LHHS basketball team on a great season.
GO 'CATS!
