‘Cats Soccer primed for showdown with ‘Horns
Senior Michal Ann Starr scored 4 goals against Richardson HS on Monday.
Coming off a huge win over Richardson HS on Monday night, the 'Cats are now primed and ready for the big showdown with the Longhorns of W.T. White.

With just three games remaining in District 9-5A play, the win over RHS secured a playoff spot for the 'Cats. The win against the Eagles came in dramatic fashion.

A tied game at the end of regulation forced a shootout. It took eight shooters for the 'Cats to pull out the 2-1 win. Junior foreign exchange student, Jonathan Esselin, aka "The Swede," scored the winning goal on the eighth dribble-up for Coach Hanes Brindley's squad.

Goalie Miles Osborn was especially instrumental in the win with a number of incredible blocked shots on the 'Horns dribble-ups.

"It was a dramatic game," said Brindley. "The Swede came through for us with that last shot, but Miles played extremely well all game. I'm proud of the boys for remaining focused and getting the win."

With the win over the Eagles, the 'Cats remain in a tie for first place with W.T. White, making Friday's game the most important match-up of the season for Coach Brindley's squad.

The first game of the season against W.T. White was "an odd one," says Coach Brindley. "We had some defensive lapses that we normally don't have and then missed 5-6 point blank shots. It was a frustrating game to say the least."

"If we play the way we are capable of playing on Friday night, we've got a great shot to be district champs, but no one is going to just give us the trophy," joked Brindley. "The boys are confident and playing well right now, so they're excited to have another shot at W.T. White."

The game against the 'Horns will be played at Loos Field in Addison and is set for Friday at 7:00 p.m.

The Lady 'Cats continued their winning ways Monday night with a dominating performance over Richardson High School.

Led by senior, Michal Ann Starr, who had four goals on the night, the girls pounded the Lady Eagles 8-0.

The girls are now on a five game win streak and are currently just one game out of first place. They face W.T. White on Friday and then travel to Carrollton Creekview next Tuesday to face-off against the district's 1st place team.

A win over Creekview would jam up the top of the standings, with just one game left on the schedule.

The Lady 'Cats game against W.T. White gets underway at 7:00 p.m. this Friday at the Boneyard.

GO 'CATS!
