‘Cats tracksters gearing up for District 9-5A meet
Apr 07 2011 by Steve Clary
This past Saturday, the LHHS Track & Field teams traveled to south Dallas to compete in the Samuell Invitational at Kincaide Stadium and managed to bring home a total of four individual gold medals while the boys and girls teams finished 5rd and 7th respectively.

Friday, April 8th, both teams will use the Plano Relays at Kimbrough Stadium as their last tune-up opportunity before the District 9-5A meet which is scheduled for next Tuesday and Wednesday April 12-13th.

For the boys team at Samuell, gold medals were had by Meron Fessahaie, Zack Knickman and Victor Iwuagwu.

Meron's personal best of 4:19 in the 1600M this season currently ranks him in the top 10 in the state. Without much competition at the Samuell meet, Meron took gold with a leisurely run of 4:21, outpacing the 2nd place finisher by over 20 seconds.

Zach Knickman took double gold in the Shot Put (52'-.05'') and Discus (160'-10'') while Victor Iwaugwu added a gold medal to his medal collection with a leap of 14' in the Pole Vault.

Other notable finishers for the boys team included David Green who placed 3rd in the 100M with a time of 11.38 while Mantez Stegall placed 4th in the 400M with a time of 51.71.

For the girls team, the Samuell meet was one of their best team performances of the year with the majority of their points scored in field events and relays.

The 4x200M Relay team (Nicole Alozie Kenya Mosley, Shatterrica Coleman, Shania Edwards) placed 3rd with a time of 1:46.35. The same team of girls placed 5th in the 4x100M Relay with a time of 50.08.

Nicole Alozie placed 3rd in the Long Jump with a leap of 16'-11'' while Kenya Mosely placed 5th in the Triple Jump (31'-9.05") and 6th in the long jump (15'-8.50"). Alozie also placed 5th in the 100M dash with a time of 13.09.

Distance runners, Maddie Bargas (13:45) and Anna Howard (15:00) placed 5th and 6th in the 3200M run while Catherine Chew placed 4rd in the 100M Hurdles with a time of 17:36.

Best of luck to the 'Cats on Friday in Plano and next week at the District 9-5A track meet at Jesuit High School.

GO 'CATS!
