A handful of varsity boys tracksters competed in the 47th annual Jesuit Sheaner Relays on Saturday at Jesuit High School.
As he has done all year, senior Meron Fessahaie led the way for the 'Cats with a phenomenal performance in the 1600M. With a personal best time of 4:19, Meron took gold in the highly competitive event. He also finished in 6th in the 800M with another personal best of 1:56.
"Winning a race at a meet like this tells you so much on where you stand in your district, region and state," said Meron. "The field is highly competitive, just like regionals and state, so winning gives me a lot of confidence for the remainder of the season."
Fellow seniors Victor Iwaugwu, David Green and Zach Knickman also did well at the Jesuit Sheaner Relays.
The high wind at the meet on Saturday didn't keep Victor Iwaugwu from registering a 3rd place finish in the pole vault with a vault of 14'-6'', a new personal best.
David Green faced some of the fastest runners in the state and ran well, placing 4th in both the 100M (11.39) and the 200M (22.25).
Also placing 4th was senior Zach Knickman with a heave of 52'-10.5'' in the shot put. Zach qualified for the finals in the discus but failed to score any team points, finishing in 7th place with a toss of 148-11''.
With only four Wildcats competing, the 'Cats finished in a respectable 10th place as a team.
Next up for Lake Highlands is the Samuell Invitational this Saturday, April 2nd at Kincaid Stadium.
