Fresh off a team state championship, Lady 'Cats senior gymnast, Hannah Van Meter, traveled to Florida last weekend to compete in the Nationals meet.
Van Meter, along with senior teammate, Sarie Morrison, were one of only 150 gymnast to qualify for Nationals.
Unfortunately, after winning six gold medals, including her third All-Around state title in a row, Morrison's recent ankle surgery left her unable to compete this year. Van Meter traveled to Florida with her head coach, Addi Ledford, who is also an assistant coach for Team Texas.
"Hannah did awesome!" exclaimed Ledford. "She placed 13th in the All-Around out of 150 girls."
Van Meter placed 8th on the Beam and 16th on the Bars, as well. Her performance was key in helping the Texas team place 5th out of a total of 24 teams.
"I just really tried to focus on having fun and not let the stress get to me," said Van Meter. "It was a blast!"
"These two girls have been the heart and soul of LH gymnastics for the past three years," Coach Ledford said of Hannah and Sarie.
"They've grown into beautiful young ladies, and it's going to be so hard to see them go. They have each meant so much to me as athletes - and they're both like daughters."
"I will always have a huge respect and love for both of them."
As most Wildcat fans know, Sarie is headed to LSU in the fall on full scholarship.
Hannah has decided to attend Abilene Christian University and plans on competing for the school's club team. She's looking to use the club experience as an opportunity to continue to improve, with hopes of securing a scholarship at another university.
Congrats to Hannah on her impressive performance at Nationals!
