As you may have noticed, we rolled out a new sports reporting platform last week The feedback has been phenomenal! Thank you to all our readers who have taken interest in our expanding coverage of Lake Highlands Sports.
The community's support of LH Today has allowed us to not only further the development of the website but also add assets to our team, enabling us to better serve the community. To that end, we are especially excited to announce a new feature that will be officially launched late this summer.
With the help of LH residents Chip Waggoner and David Hardt, LH Today will be providing live streaming audio broadcasts from each and every LHHS Wildcat football game!
Our live broadcast will include interactive features for all our listeners - and don’t worry, you won’t have to be tied down at a desk to listen in.
The broadcast will be compatible with most mobile devices, so you can tune in to our Wildcat football broadcast from just about anywhere!
Now, for more about our LH Today Broadcast Team. Most people probably recognize Chip Waggoner as part of the Fox 4 family, but before joining Fox, most of Chip’s broadcast experience was exclusively in sports.
As a TCU grad, Chip got his feet wet in the broadcast business by covering Horned Frog baseball. After graduating from TCU, he went on to work for the USA Radio Network. On nights and weekends, Chip would also broadcast games on KHYI here in Dallas.
For six seasons, his primary responsibility was the play-by-play voice for the Rockwall Yellowjackets, with occasional appearances in playoff games for Terrell, Forney, and Pilot Point contests. For the next 3 years, Chip worked as the play-by-play voice of the Allen Eagles on local cable.
“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to be a part of Lake Highlands Today and look forward to this new role, which allows me to get back to my roots,” says Waggoner.
“It’s an exciting new venture, and it's our hope that the fans will find our broadcast entertaining, but more importantly, see, hear and take pride in the up-and-coming stars in Lake Highlands... our Wildcat kids!”
“My wife and I have called this area home for many years and cannot think of a better place to raise our family. I look forward to being a greater part of the Wildcat and Lake Highlands community.”
Joining Chip in the booth as a color analyst is a familiar name to Wildcat football, David Hardt.
In addition to his career in Real Estate with Ebby Halliday, David has 10 years of experience coaching football, five of which found him roaming the Boneyard sidelines coaching the defensive and offensive line for the 'Cats.
David's tenure includes coaching during the much-talked-about 1998 season in which the Wildcats went on a memorable playoff run to the state-semi finals.
"After '98, we made the difficult transition from the wishbone veer to a one-back spread."
"Lots of teaching and coaching took place on the field during my tenure, and I'm so proud to see today's LH team kicking some tail with their spread-option attack," says Hardt.
“It's a true honor and privilege for me to be actively involved once again with LHHS and Wildcat football,” says Hardt. “The spirit of LH, the families, the community - it's very infectious. One you catch it, their ain't no shakin' it!"
“This opportunity to join the LH Today team and cover Wildcat football along with Chip is really an honor.”
We’ll be conducting a test run of the Game Day Broadcast at the annual Red & White spring game on May 8th, so tune in for what will undoubtedly be some free entertainment!
Wildcats Head Football Coach and Athletic Director, Scott Smith, commented on LH Today's new venture.
"It's been a long time since Wildcat football games have been broadcast beyond earshot of the Boneyard, so we welcome LH Today's team and look forward to the coverage."
We are far from done and will continue to improve the website at every opportunity. Thanks to all our devoted fans and readers - we couldn't do it without you!
Be sure to stay tuned for further announcements.
And remember....
