Despite a bit of rain and wind, all preliminary running events in the UIL Region II track meet finished up on time last night.
The Wildcat track team, facing some of the toughest competition in the state, had mixed reviews at the end of the day. With both Ricky Zorn and David Green out due to injuries, the 'Cats relay teams struggled - none were able to qualify for the finals.
On the other hand, senior Ronnie Jordan qualified for the finals in both the 100M and 300M hurdles. In the 300M, Jordan ran the second fastest time of three heats with blazing time of 37.93. He qualified 5th in the 100M hurdles with a time of 14.33.
Senior Curry Young ran a 12.07 in the 100M dash, which qualified her fifth for the finals. In the 200M dash, Young qualified fourth for the finals with a time of 24.68.
Future UNT teammate, Paige McCutcheon, who is battling shin splints, failed to qualify in the 400M dash.
Meron Fessahaie and Nathan Hogg ran in the 3200M final, but unfortunately neither were able to medal. Both will run in the 1600M final late this evening.
After running the 100M hurdles and 4x200M relay on day one, senior Isaac Grieder will attempt to qualify for state for the 2nd year in a row in the Pole Vault this morning.
Junior Zack Knickman will compete in the Discus, his second field event of the meet.
Action gets underway this morning at 11:00 a.m.
