Both D.D. Fields and Thayer Atkins had their hands full in round two action today.

In the 112 lb. class, Atkins faced off against the state's top ranked wrestler in Braun Marquez of Randall.

Marquez was clearly a strong, seasoned wrestler who scored first with a take down and back points, putting him up 5-0 after the 1st period.

Another six points in the next two periods put Marquez up 11-1 at the end of the match, dropping Atkins to the consolation bracket where he'll now need to win his next three matches to earn a podium spot and four matches to place 3rd.

Later tonight, Atkins will face off against Jeff Jordan from Ellison in bout 247.

In the 125 lb. weight class, Fields took on Scott Akers from Flower Mound. Tied 0-0 after the first period, Akers put three points on the board with an escape and a take down before registering a win by pin with just 13 seconds left in the third period.

Up next for Fields is J.T. Smith from Henderson in bout 253 tonight. Like Atkins, Fields now needs to win three times to earn a podium spot and can take third place with four more wins.
