Day two of the UIL Region II Track Meet is halfway complete with all field events now in the books.
Senior Isaac Grieder was attempting to qualify for the state meet for the second year in a row in the Pole Vault.
Grieder waited to enter the competition until the bar reached 14'-6'', which he cleared on his first attempt. Grieder then cleared 15' with no problems and flew over 15'-6'' on his second attempt.
Out of a field of 22 vaulters, only four remained with the bar at 16'. Grieder would exit the competition in 4th place after missing all three attempts at 16'. Only one of the remaining three vaulters cleared 16', which was the winning height.
It's hard not to make note of the fact that Isaac Grieder's high school career is now over. Perhaps there will be another opportunity to write about his accomplishments this summer when he once again competes as a decathlete at the national meet. Either way, it was a pleasure being in Waco to see him close the book on such an illustrious high school career. Congrats, Isaac!
Junior Victor Iwuagwu also competed in the Pole Vault and registered a personal record by clearing 13'.
Earlier this morning, junior Zack Knickman competed in the Discus and came away with a disappointing throw of 117'. Zack normally throws well over 150' so today just wasn't his day.
Will Spence of Richardson High School won the event with of throw of over 185'. Spence won gold in both the Discus and the Shot Put.
Beginning at 5:30 p.m., all remaining running events will be held. We'll have another update late tonight or first thing in the morning.
