The Lake Highlands Wildcat Track and Field team blew away the field in the Ron McNeil Invitational last week, winning the meet by scoring 105 points.
The LHHS victory came in nearly 35 points ahead of the team from Allen, which finished in 2nd place.
With several 'Cats registering a personal best on the season, the meet was the perfect warm-up for the District 9-5A meet, which begins tomorrow at Eagle/Mustang Stadium in Richardson.
The 4x200M Relay team (Ricky Zorn, Reggie Gibson, James Bearden and David Green) contributed 20 points to the cause with a winning time of 1.28.14 (converted).
The 4x400M Relay team (Ronnie Jordan, Ricky Zorn, Reggie Gibson and Leith Waithe) added 18 points with a second place finish in a time of 3:22.45. Both times represent the best performance of the season for the relay teams.
With an impressive win in the 200M dash, Junior David Green solidified himself as one of the top sprinters in the district.
Green won the race with a time of 22.04(converted) which is the fastest time in the district this year. Adrian Lee of Skyline has also run a 22.04 this season, so the district race should be a good one.
Senior James Bearden ran an impressive 100M race, finishing in 2nd place with a time of 10.71. Bearden was edged out at the line by Tre Jones of Plano East who ran 10.72.
Bearden also competed in the high jump and picked up another silver medal with a jump of 6',4''. Bearden's high mark of the season is 6',6'' which is the best in the district this year.
Fresh off a PR in the 110M Hurdles at the Texas Relays, senior Ronni Jordan won the 300M Hurdles with at time of 38.90, another best in the district for the year.
In the 1600M run, Junior Meron Fessahaie picked up a silver medal with a time of 4:24.
In the Pole Vault, senior Isaac Grieder also appears to be hitting his marks. Grieder cleared 15 feet for the first time this season, landing him the silver medal. Another vault like that this week at the district meet should be good enough to bring home the gold.
Grieder also ran in the 110M Hurdles for the first time this season and finished in third place with a time of 14.41.
Rounding out the top performances, Junior Zach Knickman placed 4th in the Discus Throw with a toss of 142',3''.
The district meet is set to begin tomorrow and will run through Thursday, April 15th at Eagle/Mustang Stadium in Richardson.
LH Today will have all the results for you, so stay tuned!
