Running for fun and funds at Scofield
Each child ran laps around either the gym or the school parking lot in an effort to raise money for the school.
The funds raised during the event will be spent on improvements to the school building and classrooms, according to Kelly Franko, the Scofield Parent Teacher Fellowship Fundraising Chair.
Jog-A-Fun is one of five fundraisers the school holds each year. Other fundraisers include a sealed bid auction and spring and fall plant sales.
"Last year the Jog-A-Fun raised more than $25,000 for Scofield," says Franko. "Our goal for year's event is $20,000."
Each child mailed sponsorship cards to his friends and family, and a donor could choose to either contribute a specific sum of money or donate based on the amount of laps the child ran.
Students ran for 30 minutes, taking rest and water breaks as needed.
The preschool and kindergarten students ran their laps in the gym and enjoyed a special surprise visit from Disney characters Tigger, Eeyore, and Goofy.
First through sixth grade students ran their laps in the school parking lot, where organizers played disco and pop music through a booming sound system.
Scofield Christian School was founded in 1961 and has been part of the Lake Highlands community since 1979.
